163. What is your favorite word, and why? (University of Virginia)

Without question, there is not a single person who does not know Picasso Pablo. He is one of the famous artists in our history. However, when we look at his works such as Les Demoiselles d'Avignon and Three Musicians, they look like paintings a seven years old made. So what is the reason that he is so famous out of so many other great artists? The answer is simple: he disregarded the world of perspectives and naturalism. Before him, all artists focused only on depicting objects from one viewpoint. In other words, they focused on painting objects exactly same view. Therefore, whoever could realistically paint was the best artist. Picasso, however, ignored the conventional notion of beauty; he broke up, analyzed, and re-assembled objects in an abstracted form. This is what we now call cubism.

Picasso is a “creative” artist. I also want my life to be creative. Therefore, my favorite word is creative.

  1. Creative is a word I didn't really think about much, but it just sounds so special in this post of yours! The fact that you can see the beauty in Picasso's work is itself evidence that you are creative! Many people I've met like the neat and realistic-type art, so your appreciation for a unique artist like Picasso shows that you too, have the potential to see the world through a creative aspect.

  2. I really like the way you emphasize the importance of creativity. It is from a perspective which nobody would generally think of in an essay.
But as it is a college essay, don't you think you should relate the word creativity more with yourself than Picasso.

  3. I agree with harshit. You have only related picasso with creative and not yourself. You should work more on relating to the word and emphasizing its importance related to you.

  4. "Creative" is always an admirable goal. And using a little vignette about Picasso to start off your essay is pretty good, but you've let dear Pablo overshadow you. Remember, something about yourself has to show through this piece - your personality, your dreams, or even your opinions. You could say the same things you do about Picasso, but just add little bits and pieces of your own life to it.

Picasso has enough fans to wax eloquent on his artwork. YOU need to mention why his creativity inspires you so much. Talk about a time in your life when one of his pieces gave you the inspiration you needed to do something spectacular - or even just made you feel some special emotion.

Is there something you can relate to in the way Picasso disregarded conventions? If so, let us know.

Don't end with a line that says your favourite word is "creative." Let your entire post make that apparent. Use the word "creative" frequently throughout the essay - or you can even just talk about how creativity means a lot to you.

  5. So "creative" is your favorite word? You actually answered the question in one line and went on about Picasso. It's interesting but you needed to mention it earlier. You know I remember writing something similar about Picasso for my art essay in 9th grade. That's why I liked it, I suppose. Also, you need to connect Picasso's to YOURSELF like SilverLyre (aka PD) mentioned earlier.

  6. I didn't read all the previous comments posted, but I just skimmed through some of them. I'm pretty sure they have said what I wanted to say: you need to write more about your life relating to creativity, like a story maybe. You could have used the Picasso story to transition to your own life and and relate to the creativity in your life.
Criticism aside, I think you came up with a really creative favorite word. I'd like to see your creativity. And I suppose you want to become an great artist just like Picasso. You have my full support. Creativity is art. Art forever!
