Honestly, most students don’t like to study. I see almost everyone complaining teachers for giving homework during weekend, stressed to study for exam, and sleepy for staying up for essay. They want to play sports with friends or play computer games. But why are they attending university? I only see one reason: they want to get a good job and earn a lot of money. I too am like that. This is an undeniable answer that every single student has in their mind. Perhaps few might really want to attend university to expand their knowledge, but again as I said it is only “few” students. I want to attend university to get a good job and earn a lot of money. I don’t think this is a bad motive. Anything that motivates you to pursue university degree is fine. If you are passionate to learn more, then it is better because you will learn a lot in university. But even if you were primary reason for attending university was not to learn, you will still learn more in depth than high school and eventually become skilled in the area you learn. So I do not want to say that my major reason for attending university is to expand my knowledge.
First of all, i hope this is not going to any college that you are applying :P.
ReplyDeleteIt's not exactly nice how you first make an assumption about everyone, then making talk about the "other type". "This is an undeniable answer that every single student has in their mind.Perhaps few might really want to attend university to expand their knowledge, but again as I said it is only “few” students."
Also, i don't think you should make any assumption here because it doesn't help your argument at all.
You only mentioned that you are attending college because you want to learn more and earn money; however, that's not enough. Perhaps, you can mention the benefit of attending for those reasons.
Just a side comment, if you are learning just for those two reasons, then i can guarantee that you won't really learn that much because you'll eventually get tired of it due lack of interest.
College essays are meant to be done on one's opinion. That's what colleges want. It's true that making assumptions is not a good thing but who doesn't do that? To take a more logical approach, I don't think he would submit one paragraph as a college essay. Its not that i am attacking you (hoodie) but I just feel that your comment is a little insensitive and unrealistically critical.
ReplyDeleteAbout the essay itself, I think that it would be good if more personal anecdotes are included. And elaborate on your ideas as well :D
I disagree with the bloggers paragraph. You are entitled to give your opinion and give arguments one why you think it is right, but when you said "This is an undeniable answer that every single student has in their mind.", i kind of think you made your opinion into a false fact.I am pretty sure not all students would definitely say they go to college for job and money. Some would say they would go because they want the college experience, some would say because they want to learn how to be independent, and some would say because they want to attend so that they can enhance their knowledge more by learning. I think your perspective is a bit narrow minded, but that is just my opinion.
